Gay marriage supporters protest outside Uptown Target

Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood has become one of the touch points for a national protest against Target for its support of a politician whom opposes same-sex marriage.

More than 50 people staged a weekend rally outside the new Wilson Yard Target in Uptown in protest of the retail chain’s $150,000 contribution to a political action committee (PAC) that supports a Minnesota politician who opposes same-sex marriages.

Target gave $150,000 to the  Minnesota Forward PAC, which used some of the funds to buy ads for Minnesota Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, who opposes gay marriage.

Target brought 300 jobs to Uptown with the July 25 opening of the Wilson Yard store at 4466 N Broadway St. in Chicago.

The Chicago protest was initiated by 16-year-old New Trier High School student Zachary Fraum, according to Windy City Times.
